Unfortunately, Not.

Today, Crazy-for-Books.com asks us "Are you going to Book Expo America (BEA) and/or the Book Blogger Convention (BBC) this year?"

Unfortunately, not.  I live on the opposite side of the country, and it would cost at least $1000 for me to make the trip, so there's simply no way.  I wish they would move BEA & BBC around each year like other conferences... Those of us on the West Coast are simply out of luck.

Have fun in NYC, though, all of you who are lucky enough to attend.

Here's my question for y'all:  What book did you read yesterday while waiting for Blogger to come back online!?"  (AND did your post from yesterday get totally wiped out, as mine did?)

Me?  Fed Ex dropped off my ARC copy of Josh Ritter's Bright's Passage, due out in July, and once I opened it, I could not put it down.  AMAZING.  More in a month or so, but in the meanwhile start revving up right now for what is destined to become a modern classic: lyrical yet anchored in the concrete details of a particular life, assured from sentence one in the manner of all truly great storytellers, with a one-of-a-kind prose style and a plot that offers surprise after surprise.  I'm telling y'all:  Look out for this one to rake in awards next year...

And hey, on an entirely different note:  Don't forget to drop by on Sunday for our brand new weekly Poem In Your Post Blog Hop!  Participating's a breeze: Just click here for the scoop.

See you then,
L

p.s.  Ideas for Sunday...
-  It's Get Caught Reading Month, so post a poem that got you hooked on poetry, then link it here so we can enjoy it too! (Can you say A.A. Milne or Shel Silverstein or Dr. Seuss?  Or perhaps a poem from your high school years would suit you best right now...)

-  It's also Creative Beginnings Month, so post a poem that inspires you to create, then link it here.

Your own work or someone else's (with appropriate crediting, of course) - either will do just fine:

It's all about sharing the joy and insight of poems, and the more diverse, the better!

Dude, what is going on with Blogger? It erased ALL my posts yesterday!! And all the comments people made on my review for my Wednesday post. Are you having the same dilema?

I have the same problem you do! West Coast :). I still hold out hope that someday I'll be able to go though.

To answer your question, yesterday I read half of The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place. Adorable book!

Just hopping on by. I lost on of my posts, what on earth was going on with it?

Being in the UK it's too far and too pricey for me to attend too.

Yesterday I was reading The Heart Specialist, have now been able to put my review on the blog!

I'm in Canada, so that makes it hard for me to go.
I lost two posts from Blogger!

I'm a new follower!

Yes, back online! BEA used to alternate between LA and NYC because allegedly they were the only two cities in the US with facilities large enough to hold it. Decades ago it also went to Chicago and Las Vegas. Then I think it was last year it was decided that BEA would stay in NYC for the next few years AND it would be completely mid-week. I think the publishers used their power to keep it in NYC since most of 'em are based there anyway.

Anyway, i'm sorry I won't have the chance to meet you this time around, but maybe some other time...but keep an eye on your mail box in the coming week!

Hey, all - As you know, I've visited all your blogs to respond, but I must say to Crowe that I'm sorry we won't meet this year too, but there's world enough and time...I figured that the publishing companies swung the oh-so-convenient NYC location; good to get that confirmed.
And L - I got my post from yesterday back this afternoon, but not the comments. At least it's something, and I've been reading that this Blogger blip is sending its shockwaves way beyond the blogosphere, so the problem is carrying its own natural repercussions. No need for us to add fuel to that fire, I'll warrant.

I read the Henrietta Lacks book by Rebecca Skloot while blogger was down. Blogger ate a pre-scheduled of mine and gave me back the bare bones so I had to write it over again (typing one handed). I was not pleased.

I wish that BEA came to the west coast too. I don't know if I'll ever be able to go, but hopefully someday.
