"Burn Out and Buttons: I need your help!"

First:  What do you do when you're just plain burnt out on blogging?  How do you amp yourself up to blog again?  Do you take a break?  Change your focus?  What?

Oh, I'm still reading every day for a couple of hours; I've just (temporarily, I pray) lost the will to tell people what I think about the books I'm reading.  I'm simply enjoying my reading and then taking an action with each book, but for some reason I'm resisting blogging about it all.  Most of my creative energy is now going into teaching, and it's pretty well drained those capacities to the point where I've scant interest in opining here these days.

I wish this weren't so, and I'm looking to all of you for ideas on how to reinvigorate my blogging spirits, or to suggest what you most enjoy reading about, so I can focus on that.

My gratitude in advance for any thoughts you can offer here.

MFB,
L

Second:  I'm currently working on an action-reading book challenge for 2012 because I'm still convinced it can change our lives and the world.  Can anyone recommend a how-to video on creating a button for the challenge?  Or can you recommend a blogger who makes them in exchange for her/his choice of books from my "Loved 'Em, But Don't Feel The Need To Shelve 'Em Indefinitely" pile?

Yelp its blogging sabbatical time. I almost was lead down that path. It really was my schedule. When I can't do things as I like I use to STOP but i've learned to re-focus and make adjustments. Now, I'm taking a break until the new year. I stop by one or two days a week. I don't often blog sometimes its to visit other blogs. so, take that rest period til the new year comes in and then try to blog on one book before going back to work. take it slow til you gain that desire to write reviews again. you could do a Mini review. i've been thinking of this. this is my own creation: tell readers what i'm reading, give a teaser sentence, choose a favorite character of book, and least favorite and describe them and then do a six word review. BANG!! try to blog at least once every two weeks or just participate in meme's.there are so many. hey I like my Mini Review, think I'm going to make it a meme for 2012. lol.
take care.
funny, i just asked bloggers about creating a button. google: blog button tutorial or video. most are
written instructions that i've seen.

I get bored of blogging as well. I've been in a big reading/blogging slump for the past couple months as I've been having some not serious, but annoying health problems and I've been really busy at work. I try to get myself involved again by reading and commenting on blogs and participating in memes. I'm just hoping it will come back when I get a chance to rest over the holidays.

Thanks for your helpful responses, you two: your advice is sound and compassionate, and I will certainly take it into consideration.
Sidne - I like your idea for the mini-review blog hop: If you do start one, let me know and I'll try to participate as often as possible!
I wish you both the restful holidays that will bring you back to blogging with renewed energy, and I will be among the first to visit you in the new year!

I had a burn out right as I approached my 1 yr. I ended up taking several months off. I had to - I didn't want to end up hating the project that I started out so passionately about.

When I returned, I slowed down on the posts significantly! It has made all of the difference. Now, I'm excited everytime I need to write a post. Sometimes I even think I should pick up the pace! But I prevent myself from doing so because I know where that landed me previously. Plus I enjoy the renewed excitement for every post. I that's the way it should be. Each post should excite me :-)

That is fantastic advice, Shannon, and I thank you for it. Now that you say it, it makes so much sense: You should spend no time in life doing something you're not forced to do if it doesn't feel rewarding. Such a welcome and apt reminder.

The thing to remember is why your doing it - The Reading, I only post on average once a week, very occasionally twice, but no more. This gives me plenty of time for reading & for writing my posts, in fact because I only post once a week I'm normally a few posts ahead leaving me with space if the book I'm reading is a large one or if I'm stuck & can't write.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, PL. That's thoughtful advice too, and indeed it helps. Off to craft one or two posts per week for a while. Let's see if I can make them stellar ones.
