Another reason you gotta love Canada

A nationwide contest in which Canadian celebs defend their favorite books of the year.  Whoda thunk it?  AND they have gorgeous young writer-TV host-musician Jian Ghomeshi as the emcee, not some graying Charlie Rose type (and I loves me some Charlie Rose, but you all know exactly what I mean).

The rest of us non-Canadian souls:  Let's take their challenge to build a national culture (where e'er ye be) in which authors are the next wave of hot, shall we?

Another primo reason to love Canada is their CBC Radio 2 music station, which you can get streaming on the web any time.  I heard about this Canada Reads contest from DJ deity Tom Allen on his show Shift.  And then I went to his Shift blog, and this professional musician-DJ is blogging this week about what?  BOOKS!! Bless him.

And if you check out his blog, you'll find out - as I did - that this guy's a born storyteller, currently instigating readers to co-construct a murder mystery set in a symphony orchestra. (BTW, he's written three books...This I did not know until today, but I shoulda guessed.  Writers rock.)

And if you've never heard him talk about music, you are missing a guy who puts the C in 'cool musician'.  Plus his show will keep you guessing.  And smiling.  He plays a wildly eclectic mix.
